Definition of a doula:

A woman who gives help and support to another woman before, during, and after the birth of her baby.

I’ll help you say what you really wanna say.

Writing copy and showing up can feel overwhelming… even scary.

Maybe you’ve already worked with a copywriter who just didn’t get it.

Maybe you’ve been doing everything yourself and you simply can’t go any further.

It’s easy to get stuck with a message that’s falling flat or worse, never hitting the publish button at all.

As a copy doula, I blend my empathic abilities + copywriting chops to help you attract the people you’re meant to serve.

Helping lightworkers refine their message reminds me of the birth process.

In “Under the Tuscan Sun” (one of my favorite movies!), Francesca, the heroine of the movie, gently holds her best friend’s newborn in the light of the window.

She narrates the scene saying that in Italy, “Dare alla Luce” is the term they use for giving birth. It means, “to give to the light.”

And that’s exactly what we’re here to do.

Message clarity that’s bold & aligned comes to light differently for everyone.

A Copy Doula guides you through the process.

I’m here to bring your words to light.

Sonja Petrik – a.k.a. The Copy Doula

Copywriter. Lightworker. Storyteller.

As a Copy Doula, I work with all kinds of small businesses, but I specialize in working with spiritual and holistic entrepreneurs- female coaches, creatives, and healers.  I’ll help you put your doubt, fears, and blocks where they belong- in the back seat.

For a long time, I kept my professional life and my spiritual life separate.

There was the ‘corporate business-y’ me and then there was the woo-woo me.

I’ve done everything from fire walking to transcendental meditation, chakra balancing to reiki sessions, and sound healing to deep prayer.

The more I searched for what rings true, the less aligned I felt in the corporate world.

I walked away from all the false narratives and ‘shoulds’ in my life to let my heart lead the way.

Now, I blend what I’ve learned from the business, self-help, and spiritual worlds to empower women and help them tell their stories online.

So, how does my journey serve you?

First of all, you’re never gonna freak me out or overwhelm me with the services you offer or the story you want to tell.

Energy healers and free spirits—I speak your language.

Second of all, I know how it feels to make the transition from doing what you thought you were ‘supposed’ to be doing to stepping into what you’re called to do.

Sometimes, it brings up blocks that keep you from taking action and I can help you navigate them.

When you work with me, first we get magical and THEN we get tactical.

We go beyond copywriting to get to the heart of your purpose.

I work with a select handful of copy clients at a time to offer the highest level of support.

Lifting up and supporting women business owners is a big part of my life’s mission.

Curious how I got here?

Read on!

BACKGROUND

My career path has more curves than RuPaul rocking the runway.

As I entered the corporate world with a degree in hotel management, I shut down all my woo to focus on an ‘epic’ career.  I worked for one of the largest hotel companies in the world and thought I was going to be a ‘lifer’.  I learned from some of the best in selling, event management, and customer service.

But the balance wasn’t there (like, AT ALL).

After I was in a crazy drunk driver car accident that almost ended the lives of me and two of my friends, I couldn’t fake it anymore.

I wanted to find a job that made me happy.

From being in outside sales to staying home with my kids, nothing felt quite right.  Each job contained something I loved and then a lot of stuff that drained me. I learned valuable skills working for others (hello, embracing the power of sales systems), but wanted more- more control, more freedom, more expression.  I especially more flexibility to be with my family.

I decided to learn how to code.

Starting small with a Skillcrush course in html/css, I transformed my life.

The awesome team at Skillcrush introduced me to Laura Belgray’s copywriting course that she created with Marie Forleo- The Copy Cure.  I had no idea that writing and coding could go together- but they DO.  A website can be well-designed, but if the copy is off, so is everything else.

Over the course of two years, I took more online classes to learn:

  • Illustrator
  • Photoshop
  • Facebook Ads Marketing
  • Inbound Marketing principles from Hubspot.
  • Skillcrush- The WordPress Developer Blueprint
  • Copywriting Classes by The Copy Chief and by Laura Belgray

Then, it was time to leave my full-time job and hone my skills by doing freelance work.

I put the Lewis Howes, Gary Vaynerchuk, Mel Robbins and Tim Ferris podcasts on repeat in my SoundCloud to work on my mindset as I transitioned into small business ownership. I needed that masculine energy to push through some major mindset hurdles. Fire, fire and MORE fire.

I didn’t even realize I was slipping into an old, very comfy, familiar pattern…

In early 2018, (four years after taking my first HTML course), I joined Marie Forleo’s BSchool program to help me launch Louder Marketing Group.  I was going to build a “kickass” digital agency.  I hit my major financial targets a year later and then- BIG SURPRISE- I almost collapsed from exhaustion. The money was not enough.

It never had been.

Crap. Not this again.

That crash lead me to Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map program and for the FIRST TIME in my life I asked myself: “What do I really want to do?”

“What kind of life do I really wanna live??”

“What actually makes me happy?”

Suddenly, I face-planted right into a sea of shadow-work.

I’ll spare ya the details. It wasn’t very fun.

Prayer, meditation, yoga, and The Desire Map process helped me reconnect with my purpose.

Based on my Core Desired Feelings, I decided to pivot my digital agency away from typical services to better support lightworkers in their missions. The part I loved about building websites was helping women show up online. I felt electric anytime one of my clients stood in her authentic truth and basked in the limelight.

Telling their story and creating offers empowered them. I knew that this is where I truly wanted to serve so I decided to focus on spiritual copywriting.

Looking back, it’s apparent that I’ve always been a copy doula, but now, I’m fully owning that role – PLUS – my ideal client is clear.

Fiery energy is still with me, but I’m all about that watery, divine feminine energy I neglected for so long.

My heart finally has a say in my life and my business.

It’s my life mission to help other women find their voices and fully own their gifts.

I can’t wait to help you get the clarity you crave.

CURRENT STUFF

My motto?  Never stop learning. Ever.  I bring it ALL to every client project I work on.

Most recently, Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map planner and workbook changed my life. I knew it would help my clients too.

So, in January 2019, I became a licensed Desire Map Facilitator!  I’m opening lots of doors for myself and for others with a Feelings First approach.

When my clients are really stuck in their messaging and purpose, the Desire Map Process is solid gold when it comes to giving them the clarity they need.

I’ve done all this learning, growth, and mindset work to discover a simple truth:  I’m here to help women fully express themselves online. Especially female lightworkers.

Outside of my businesses, I love to paint (in any medium, but especially glass paint) and craft with copious amounts of fine-powder glitter. I love hosting craft night at my house with friends and plenty of wine. Current obsession: painting over-the-top-crazy cookie jars.

My family is all about Netflix, PBS, and Amazon Prime. Movie night is a big deal complete with homemade popcorn.  My husband usually kindly asks me to not choose “another period piece” like Downtown Abbey, Mr. Selfridge, The Durrells of Corfu, Pride & Prejudice, Victoria, Outlander… MY FAVORITES. Actually, he loves them too, just not on repeat. If we’re not watching a period piece, we’re watching anything Star Wars.

I wear yoga pants as much as possible (lifelong dream accomplished… and they’re usually splattered with paint).  If you see me fiddling with my hair in front of a mirror, I’m usually checking for paint and glitter.

I’m a connector, a door opener, a cheerleader, a truth-teller and a helper.

I’m also an empath with a handful of ‘clairs’…I’m not afraid to pull a crystal or a card every now and then.

I looooooove personality tests.  Myers-Briggs: I’m and ENFP (ENFJ if I’m under a lot of pressure).

DISC Assessment: High D and S.  Enneagram-  2 The Helper with a 3 The Achiever Wing

Human Design- Generator- 2,4
